Periodic Device Shutdown on the PRS-505

03 APR 2009

Performing a "Device Shutdown" on your PRS-505 not only saves battery life, it also can improve the device's performance. A few subscribers have experienced excessive page-turn times after a few months without a shutdown. So if your PRS-505 seems to be running slower, try restarting it by selecting "Settings", "Advanced Settings", "Device Shutdown", and then pressing the bookmark button. Once the reader shuts down, slide the power switch to start up again. Even better, consider doing a "Device Shutdown" and restart as preventative maintenance after downloading each new cycle.

Note: The small bookmark or "Mark" button depicts an open book with a dog-eared page, and is located near the bottom edge, left of center.Button-mark

Airport Name Index

05 MAR 2009

Starting in cycle 0903 you'll find a "Airport Index" book for each state.  These new books contain an alphabetical listing of airport names, and the corresponding city they're listed under in the Reader Plates table of contents.  This can be a useful tool for those of you coming from the printed FAA/NACO (aka. NOS) books, which are mostly arranged alphabetically by the airport name.
